Frogger 2: Swampy’s Revenge

2000 Interactive Studios

Platform: Nintendo 64

As part of the launch and release of The Games That Weren’t book, we are  adding assets and content that didn’t make it to print as bonus DLC content to share with you.

Within the book is an in-depth and detailed 10 page story about the unreleased Nintendo 64 edition of Frogger 2 by Interactive Studios. We spoke to Andrew and Philip Oliver, Andy Eder, Darren Wood, Matt Cloy and Steve Bond about the cancelled platform development due to cartridge commitment costs.

Whilst researching about the game, Philip Oliver very kindly dug out a number of photos and pictures of assets from around the time of the game’s development, including an unused advert showing the N64 as a release platform. Not everything could be included in the book, so we have added it here as bonus DLC, including a number of screenshots which we obtained that were not used.

So here they are, and we hope you enjoy them, including some resource and video links showing other prototypes:

  1. Hahaha, wow – thanks for posting those photos, Frank! I haven’t seen them since shortly after they were taken! Some trivia for you… In photo #21, there’s a picture of a young kid in a white cardigan with a monkey on his shoulder (labelled “55”). That is also me as a young child!

    • No worries Andy, all thanks to the Oliver Twins for digging out during our research. Ah that is awesome! I didn’t spot that it was photos of all of you as kids (and one of the guess the child games!)

      • Hi! I’m hoping to contact the Oliver Twins regarding Frogger 2 Swampy’s Revenge. Do you happen to have a contact for them? I’ve asked Andy as well, but it seems you also have a direct connection to them. Thanks!

  2. Any chance of more info on the other prototype games the Oliver Twins had? In particular Action Man and Dragon Storm? Those seem to be unreleased as well.
