1989 Kingsoft
Platform: Commodore Amiga
A short entry for what looks like a superb little Galaga clone with a load of extra bells and whistles taking advantage of Amiga hardware.
Just a small preview seems to have featured within a 1989 issue of Powerplay, before the game then disappeared for good. There was an advert with someone hopeful that they could get a copy of the game, but that was about it.
Oddly, there is a crack intro out there by Skid Row which seems to be for a game called Galactic Dance. This was from around 1991 time. The same game or the name of the crack intro itself?
An anonymous contributor (thanks!), flagged up a good point that Kingsoft had released Galaxy’89 on the Amiga during the same year. Odd that both games were from the same year – so was Galactic Dance merely just a mock up, found not to be plausible, with a much simpler edition produced instead? We hope to get hold of Udo Reiss (coder of Galaxy’89) to see if they had any involvement or know more.
If you know anything more about this game, then please do get in touch.
With thanks to Grzegorz Antosiewicz for flagging up the title and https://retrocdn.net/ for the scan.
The screenshot looks like some kind of mock up to me.
I think so too – hoping of course that it isn’t. We’ll see!
That actually looks pretty decent! A shame it never came out (assuming it didn’t anyway).
Hopefully moves as good as it looks! :) There’s oddly a Skid Row cracktro out there for a preview of it from 1991, but no game attached to it by the looks of things.
da waren die Cracker schneller als die Programmierer
It seemed so!
