Also known as: Exploding Fist

Ten years after the release of the Commodore 64 classic Way Of The Exploding Fist, there were plans for an Amiga and PC game which had a lot of inspiration from the title and was a sort of unofficial port of the game with various improvements, including design inspiration from the training bits from Chambers of the Shaolin.

The game started as a cross-platform Atari/Amiga game, and then later moved fully to PC due to the market changes at the time. Development was by Dave Gibbons, with graphics by Steven Day (who had previously done titles such as Fireforce on the Amiga and ST).

Animation would replicate how the original game worked, with some slight revisions in places. In an interview with Hall of Light, Steve shared some of the graphics – and the game looked pretty good.

As the game developed, it became more of a F.I.S.T 2 game, than one based on the first. Unfortunately, development would cease when the arrival of CD technology made the team realise that publishers were expecting a lot more (i.e. FMV and other high tech features). The game had got to a stage of being playable with two players.

Sadly, Steve has confirmed in the interview that the PC version is lost – though it is still hopeful someone may have something of it, or even the earlier Amiga/ST builds. Thankfully Steve does seem to have all of the graphics – some of which you can see here thanks to the Hall of Light interview.

Additionally, some of Steven’s original graphics were used in the recreation of the game on the ZX Spectrum Next.

With thanks to Anonymous Contributor for details and Hall of Light for information and screenshots.
