Hannibal the Conqueror

2008 Volatile Games

Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC (+ potentially others)

Volatile Games was a division of Blitz Games, created with one goal in mind: to make games for a mature audience. Their first real step into this world was Reservoir Dogs, a video game adaptation of Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic. While it didn’t set the world on fire, it proved that Volatile Games could handle darker, more violent themes. It was their way of dipping a toe into deeper waters.

After Reservoir Dogs, they set their sights on something bigger – Possession, a zombie apocalypse game. Unfortunately, after months of production, that project never saw the light of day. But tucked away in their history is another title that has gone largely undocumented : Hannibal the Conqueror.

Very little is known about this game. What was Hannibal the Conqueror supposed to be?

There is barely any information about this game, but one thing seems certain – it was (probably) meant to be a tie-in for Hannibal the Conqueror, the long-planned Vin Diesel movie that never made it out of development hell. Given how many years the film struggled to get off the ground, it’s likely the game never got far before being scrapped alongside it.

I did manage to track down a trailer, offering brief glimpses of what the game could have been. But beyond that, there’s almost nothing left – no developer insights, no concept art, nothing. At the time of writing this, that trailer is the only trace of Hannibal the Conqueror that still exists online.
